Webinar hosted by Jem Bendell with guest Joanna Macy.

Joanna Macy PhD, is a scholar of Buddhism, general systems theory, and deep ecology. A respected voice in the movements for peace, justice, and ecology, she interweaves her scholarship with five decades of activism. The author of more than twelve books, she is the root teacher of the Work That Reconnects, a ground-breaking theoretical framework and workshop methodology for personal and social change.

Many thousands of people around the world have participated in Joanna’s workshops and trainings. Her group methods, known as the Work That Reconnects, have been adopted and adapted yet more widely in classrooms, churches, and grassroots organizing. Her work helps people transform despair and apathy, in the face of overwhelming social and ecological crises, into constructive, collaborative action. It brings a new way of seeing the world, as our larger living body, freeing us from the assumptions and attitudes that now threaten the continuity of life on Earth.

  • Here is the recording. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1wUY6945kY

Note that all Q&As go on my youtube channel, which is always top right of this website.

  • What an enchanting evening we had, I walked home through the woods bare feet in total bliss.  Much love and gratitude to Joanna , Jem and all who sat there.

  • So sorry I missed this. Is there a recording  ?

  • Thank you for this powerful communion,  Joanna,  Jem, brothers & sisters.

    Thank you, beautiful Earth.

    "Humility is freedom"
    - Joanna Macy

  • Disappointed that I got the times wrong (UTC+1) and joined the group (4.15am Perth, AU) approx one hour after the start time. So I am hoping it was recorded and I can still view the event. Is that so?

  • I too feel an abundance of gratitude for Joanna's beauty, depth and love of life for humanity and of this sphere we call earth. A deep bow to Joanna and all the DAF administrators and those who showed up today.  I certainly related to Joanna's revelation about the earth. I once went for a walk in the woods under a moonlit sky. It was a powerful moment, not cognitively, but a bodily felt knowing of the aliveness of the earth I was walking on. I treaded lightly filled with wonder and love. I fell to my knees not fully understanding why. It took me a while. I'm in deep gratitude for the subtly of Joanna’s sharing of her wisdom and depth with us.  I keep needing to be reminded who I really am. I forget because I've worn a thick armour for too long. I’m cherishing how Joanna Massey referred to Jem as being ‘’intellectually naked and emotionally available. And I love you for that.’’

    With Love

  • I feel so much gratitude to you Jem and Joanna for a stunning online experience, despite the technical weirdness at the start, no blame or fault! Just what it was, it was real. Joanna was so beautiful in her humbleness towards Jem and the PDA work of holding space for pain and grief.  Thank you again for bringing this space together.

  • Thanks Joanna, Jem and All,

That was definitely a special opportunity to be with Joanna in real-time.

'Everything we know and love and feel is part of Earth'

'This is a moment of such exquisite realization'

    In gratitude
